Terms of Use

Effective June 9, 2026

By subscribing to The Valley Weekly or using thevalleyweekly.com, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not subscribe and do not use the site. Either is fine.

What this is

The Valley Weekly is a free Tuesday-morning email newsletter about the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. It is published as a personal editorial project by Neal Quesnel. The newsletter is free; we may add paid features or sponsorships in the future, and if we do, the terms governing those will be spelled out clearly when they launch.

Subscription and unsubscribing

You can subscribe by entering your email address on the site or through a referral link. We will send you a confirmation email; once you confirm, you are on the list and will receive each week's issue. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email footer, and the next issue we send will be one you did not get.

We may suspend or remove your subscription if we have a reasonable belief that the email is invalid, the account is being used to game the referral program, or the address has repeatedly bounced or marked our messages as spam.

The referral program

When you subscribe, we generate a share link you can send to friends. When friends subscribe through your link, you earn credit toward the reward tiers listed on the site (sticker, coffee, show tickets, and so on).

  • Referrals count only when the new subscriber confirms their signup. Pending or expired signups do not count.
  • Self-referrals (subscribing yourself under your own code) do not count. We track signups by IP and email at signup time to detect this.
  • Rewards are subject to availability. We will substitute comparable items if a specific reward becomes unavailable.
  • Physical rewards (sticker, tote) require you to provide a shipping address. We ship within the United States; outside the U.S. we will work with you on alternatives.
  • The reward ladder may change over time. Credits already earned at the time of the change are honored at the value they were earned.
  • We may disqualify any account from referral rewards if we detect activity we reasonably believe is abusive, fraudulent, or otherwise inconsistent with the spirit of the program.

Content and intellectual property

The writing, design, layout, and original artwork on The Valley Weekly are owned by Neal Quesnel unless we explicitly credit another source. You may forward an issue to a friend, quote a short passage in a review or article (with attribution), and share screenshots of an issue on social media. You may not republish full issues, repackage them as your own, or run them against an AI training pipeline without prior written permission.

Information about businesses, events, and venues in the letter is provided as a reader service. We do our best to verify dates, prices, and details, but we are not the source of truth for any of those things. Always confirm directly with the venue before making plans around an event.

Sponsored content and partnerships

When an item in the letter is paid for by a sponsor or partner, we mark it clearly as such. We do not silently endorse paid placements as editorial picks. Sponsors do not get pre-approval over editorial content elsewhere in the issue. If we ever change that, we will say so plainly.

Things outside our control

Email delivery is not guaranteed by anyone. We use a reputable email service and follow best practices, but mailboxes block, filter, defer, or lose messages for reasons we cannot prevent. If you stop receiving issues, check your spam folder first and email us if it is missing.

The site is provided as-is. We make no warranty that it will be available, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site or the newsletter.

Privacy

We handle your personal information as described in our Privacy Policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes get an email heads-up to subscribers; minor edits are made silently and the effective date at the top of this page is updated.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Disputes will be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in Hampshire or Hampden County, Massachusetts.
